Cocktail party of ultra-compact binary systems

   In this project we will study a particular problem in Gravitational Waves (GWs) astronomy. While the GW sources which are currently detected with LIGO and VIRGO are rare and of short duration, some GW signals expected in the
milli-Hz and nano-Hz band last for the whole period of observation. In addition we expect a large number of GW signals to be present in the data simultaneously, which creates a source confusion. Sometimes this problem is referred to as a "cocktail party": we trying to separate individual voice(s) during the party where everyone talks at the same time.   Similarly in the GW data we are trying to separate and characterize each signal.
    During this project student will get familiar with GW sources in LISA (future space based GW observatory)  and PTA (Pulsar Timing Array)  bands and will work with most advanced tools in attempt to separate individual GW signals from the simulated data. This work will be done in a close collaboration with the pulsar group at Orleans led by Prof. Theureau.
